Billy Joel – Keeping Time: The Photographs of Don Hunstein
Billy Joel has never strayed from a New York state of mind. Born in the Bronx, he became the quintessential Long Island songwriter. Over the course of an illustrious pop career, his songs have paralleled the life of the city, chronicling triumph and tenacity, risk and rewards, pleasure and disappointment. He’s pictured here on the Avenue of Americas near Central Park, in the sweltering summer of 1973, weeks before the release of his debut album, “Piano Man.” The shot is featured in a magnificent new book, recently published by Insight Editions, called KEEPING TIME: THE PHOTOGRAPHS OF DON HUNSTEIN: INSIDE THE UNSEEN ARCHIVE OF COLUMBIA RECORDS.
