Silverstein wrote every selection on Columbia/Legacy’s —and Shel’s first ever—Best Of compilation (2 were co-writes: “The Taker” with Kris Kristofferson and “A Couple More Years” with Coccoriere). He performs over half of them. With a legacy encompassing some of the top-selling children’s books of all time—including Where The Sidewalk Ends—Shel’s recitations from his classic works will enchant the young at heart of every age.Other highlights include Johnny Cash’s GRAMMY winning smash “A Boy Named Sue” and the Shelpenned hits for Dr. Hook & The Medicine Show, “Cover Of The Rolling Stone” and “Sylvia’s Mother.”

With support from the Shel Silverstein estate and their archives, this compilation features rare photos and drawings. Shel’s nephew Mitch Myers—creative consultant for the estate as well as an acclaimed NPR journalist—wrote the insightful liner notes. In closing his personal and informative essay, Myers concludes, “Shel threw himself completely into his work—he did it for his words, he did it for his songs and he did it for his friends. He also did it for you.”
