Drenched by Music
From the Slack Key Masters series on Dancing Cat comes this release by George Kahumoku Jr. This one is primarily instrumental, though there are passages here and there with vocal accompaniment, both by Kahumoku as well as an additional female singer. The guitar work is outstanding, as would be expected from one of the Dancing Cat releases. The songs move through a number of classic compositions, including "Queen's Jubilee" and "Aloha 'Oe," up through slightly more contemporary choices. For anyone interested in looking into the slack key genre, this wouldn't be a bad choice to start. Others, such as Cyril Pahinui Led Kaapana and so on, would also make good starting points, perhaps even slightly better, though the only fault of this album is that there are other exceptional players in competition with it. ~ Adam Greenberg, All Music Guide
